3. How and why we use your data

We use your data for the purposes below, each relying on a legal basis under the UK GDPR / EU GDPR:

PurposeLegal basis
Create and run your account and provide the ServicePerformance of a contract
Show, deliver and personalise content and featuresContract / legitimate interests
Send push notifications and service emails you've enabledConsent / legitimate interests
Process purchases and manage subscriptionsPerformance of a contract
Keep ONES safe — moderation, abuse and fraud prevention, security, and age assuranceLegitimate interests / legal obligation
Diagnose problems and improve the ServiceLegitimate interests
Respond to your messages and support requestsLegitimate interests
Comply with the law and respond to lawful requestsLegal obligation

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have balanced those interests against your rights. Where we rely on consent (for example optional notifications), you can withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out.

4. AI & automated processing

ONES includes AI channels and characters, AI-assisted content, and automated moderation. When you interact with AI features, the relevant content (for example your prompt or a post) may be processed by us and by third-party AI providers to generate a response or to check it against our safety rules. We use automated tools to help detect content that breaks our rules, but we do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing without a way to seek human review. You can contact us to query a moderation action.

5. Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers ("processors") who help us run ONES, and only as needed. These currently include:

We may also disclose data if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety and property of ONES, our users or the public. If our business is reorganised, merged or sold, data may transfer as part of that, subject to this policy.

6. International data transfers

Some of our providers are located outside the UK and European Economic Area (for example in the United States). Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on an appropriate safeguard — such as a UK "adequacy" decision, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses — so that your data receives an equivalent level of protection. You can ask us for more detail using the contact details below.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes above. In general, we keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain information to meet legal, tax, security, or dispute-resolution obligations, or in backups that are overwritten on a rolling basis.

8. Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and storing credentials securely. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the regulator of a serious breach where the law requires.

9. Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:

You can exercise many of these directly in the app (for example editing your profile or deleting your account). For anything else, use our contact form. We will respond within the time the law allows (usually one month) and will not charge you unless a request is excessive.

10. Children

ONES is not for children under the applicable minimum age — 16 in the UK, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, and 13 (or higher where local law requires) elsewhere. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Cookies & similar technologies

Our website uses only the minimal storage needed to make it work; it does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The app stores data on your device (such as a secure login token and local preferences) to keep you signed in and remember your settings. ONES does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not use advertising identifiers such as the IDFA. Any advertising within ONES is first-party only.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will give you reasonable notice (such as an in-app notice or email) and update the "last updated" date above.

13. Contact & complaints

For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us via our contact form or write to the registered address below.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. If you are in the EU, you can complain to your local supervisory authority. We'd appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
